Have you ever been in a state of confusion or felt like you had no direction or vision for your life? I know I have been plenty of times. Just recently the Lord revealed this scripture to me: “Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established” (Proverbs 16:3, KJV). You see the Lord wants us to include Him in every single area of our lives. There should not be a second in our lives when we’re not giving God the glory and praise even in our simple, daily tasks, actions, etc. We should be in sync with Him at all times, approaching our day-to-day routines in a like-minded fashion with Christ. Once we’re operating in His same mindset, our confusion will start to eradicate.
There was a time in my life when I desired to be an NFL player; but I also have always desired to be a true man of God one day and a devout family man. I remember the change in my life – the change that led me to Christ. It took slowing me down with an injury after an NFL tryout in order for God to get my attention. It was during this time that I remember being extremely confused. I had to decide: do I continue to pursue my dream of playing in the NFL, or do I submit my life totally to the Lord so that I can truly become the man of God that I’ve always desired to be? Had I decided to continue chasing my dream, that would have meant less and less church time for me, which would have made it increasingly difficult for me to make that transformation that I needed to happen (I was a new convert to the Lord at that point). Maybe it would have been a different story had I grown up in the church, but all I know is that I could not take the chance of losing my relationship with God by pursuing a career that would have left me surrounded by an ungodly lifestyle and a bunch of temptations to do no good.
As I look back and reminisce, I realize that the more I continued to do what Proverbs 16:3 says, the more my true desires started to become a reality. God blessed me with a beautiful God-fearing wife after I decided to let go of my dream and follow Him. Now we’re expecting our first child in February 2017. We’re also focusing on building our own business together. I couldn’t be any happier. God is truly amazing! The moral of the story is to stay committed to the Lord and His plans for your life will outshine any hurt or disappointment that you may have faced. As you seek to align your mind with Christ’s and better understand His plan for your life, here’s another passage of scripture for you to consider:
Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead. Carefully consider the path for your feet, and all your ways will be established. Don’t turn to the right or to the left; keep your feet away from evil. – Proverbs 4:25-27, HCSB
