We all know how tough it can be to stay in a good rhythm and to keep up with consistency when it comes to fitness training. That is why I’m proposing to you that you find ways to keep your passion level up and that you get creative with your exercise routine. Think about that childhood sport that you loved, the sport that you trained so hard for in high school, the karate moves that you practiced so much in order to achieve that red, orange, green, or black belt. If none of these pertain to you, just think about the sport you always wanted to play or the athlete that you loved watching. If it was an old sport that you used to play, I encourage you to reintroduce those training techniques into your daily workouts. Just because you may not be a professional athlete doesn’t mean you can’t train like one!
Restore that passion that you had while playing sports and bring it to your adult life. The passion that you had while running on the field or while playing basketball could be what’s lacking and what’s keeping you from achieving your fitness goals today. If you were one that never did any physical activities when you were younger or played any sports, start practicing that one thing that you always wanted to and make it a part of your daily workout.
An example of being creative during a basketball workout is to approach your drills as if you have a defender on you and the clock is counting down with only 5 or 10 seconds until the buzzer sounds. Your objective is to create space by doing a couple moves to get open and shoot the basketball with one second left on the clock. You can either pretend the defender is guarding you or you can do this with a friend. Doing this ten times in a row without resting will surely get your heart pumping! This is a fun, creative way to workout. You can simulate this same type of workout with soccer, too. If you were one who played football or always wanted to, why not go on a field and imitate some of the same movements that you may see some of your favorite athletes doing. I know it may sound funny or look funny doing this on your own outside, but the whole point is to be imaginary and creative with our workouts. Practice boxing on your own and watch how much of a sweat you work up. These are just a few of many examples that we can implement in our workout regimen. Just make sure to challenge yourself while having fun and being creative.
