They say you live and you learn, right? Well, my most recent “learning experience” was pretty costly. Valuable, but expensive.
It all came from this whole publishing experience. I published my first book last September under the title 4D Life: Four Dimensions of a Purpose-Full Life.
Now that doesn’t mean anything to you, does it?
Yeeaahh… That title is actually the main reason I decided to do an entire publishing overhaul. Even after spending nearly $2,000 for a premium self-publishing package and graphic design, this book just wasn’t all I knew it could be. So I rebranded with a better title that clearly communicates what you’re going to gain from this book and a cover design that is actually relevant.
All these dollars and hours of work later, what has this $2K learning experience really taught me? Two main things:
1. Messing up really isn’t the end of the world (or even all that bad).
As a total Type-A, former straight-A student, I’m driven to get it totally right the first time; so, when the first version of this book was done and out there and I realized I hated it, I was afraid to admit it. But rebranding and republishing was the best decision – and it was actually easier that doing it the first time!
2. “The pursuit of perfection often impedes improvement.” – George Will
Perfection is elusive, at best. If we wait to achieve it, we’ll never accomplish anything at all. (Tweet that!) Take technology for example: Apple is foreverrrr sending software updates for “bug fixes”. You know what that tells me? Even they don’t have it all figured out! It‘s ok to start and make changes later, especially because if you think you’ve got it all perfect, you’ll never see how you can improve. Always stay open and strive for something greater!
Soooooo *drumroll* I am super SUPER excited to share with you my reinvented book, Purposed to Impact, releasing May 18th!
Guys, this is IT! And I just know you’re going to love it. To get it in your hands as quickly as possible, I’m giving away a free chapter to give you a feel for how this message will totally transform your belief in and pursuit of your purpose. Even better, there are going to be some pretty sweet pre-order bonuses, so be sure to visit the Purposed to Impact launch site and enter your email so I can send your free chapter and updates on the book (re)launch.
At the end of the day, I feel so much more confident in this finished product! God has given me so much greater clarity around it and all the other amazing things I’m working on that tie into this message (more on those later). It just goes to show that when you let Him lead, even if it means taking a detour or doing a little off-roading to get back on track, you’ll rest assured you’re where you’re supposed to be.
Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT) says, “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.“
So be encouraged! Hopefully your next learning experience won’t be as expensive as mine, but even if so, enjoy the journey. Focus on the skills and perspective you gain along the way, and trust that as you strive to follow and honor God, He’ll keep holding your hand and guiding you in the right direction.
Much love,
Kendall
